Chelsea fans will probably have this down as a guaranteed 3 points as they welcome Newcastle to the Capital. The Toon Army won’t be having any of that though and will be buoyed by their 1-0 win over Manchester United a fortnight ago. That been said, Chelsea are a much more threatening unit and they don’t have home advantage here.
Frank Lampard will be pleased by his attacking players so far this season, they’ve bagged 18 in their first 8 games and come here after thrashing Southampton 4-1. Tammy Abraham has slotted right in and has made a strong case that the Blues did right not loaning him out again. These are the games that he usually scores in and with the array of attacking options around him he should get plenty of chances; he’s a fair 5/6 (Betfair) to carry on his hot streak.
Matty Longstaff was the star of the show in the Magpies’ much needed victory against United at St James’ Park. He has to start again here alongside brother Sean in the middle of the park and his energy can give the visitors a boost. They did go to Spurs and win earlier in the season but generally the North-East club toil when on the road. It’s hard to see them getting anything here and the 10/1 quotes on them reflect such a train of thought.
Chelsea remain without Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Emerson. N’Golo Kante, Andreas Christensen, Matteo Kovacic and Reece James all picked up knocks on international duty and may not feature. Antonio Rudiger is returning from injury but not 100% yet. Callum Hudson-Odoi is now back fully fit and will be on a high after bagging a brace for England under 21’s last week.
Newcastle are without the injured duo Matt Ritchie and Florian Lejeune. Isaac Hayden is suspended.
Potential Chelsea Starting XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Alonso, Jorginho, Barkley, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Willian, Abraham.
Potential Newcastle Starting XI: Dubravka, Yedlin, Schar, Lascelles, Clark, Willems, S Longstaff, M Longstaff, Almiron, Atsu, Joelinton.

I do think Chelsea will get a comfortable enough win here, even with some injury doubts and their transfer ban, they still have a deep squad. They’re scoring plenty of goals and given Newcastle’s bluntness in front of goal I think they can cover a -1.5 asian handicap wjhih is priced at 10/11 with Bet Victor. If you’re not aware, this bet is the same as a straight -1 normal handicap but a slightly better price for exactly the same bet, it’s effectively Chelsea to win by two or more goals.
I was surprised by how low the card line was here too, I’m generally inclined to take a 3.0 asian line in this market. Newcastle have picked up 14 yellows and a red so far and Chelsea have picked up 14 yellows too so both are averaging just below two cards per game and combined there’s an average comfortably north of 3. Backing this selection would see us profit should 4 or more cards be shown, however if exactly 3 are shown we get our stake back. The only way we lose is if 2 or fewer cards are shown.
