Chelsea have their first European game under Frank Lampard as they welcome Valencia to London. The Blues come into the game on the back of an impressive 5-2 win at Molineux against Wolves.
Tammy Abraham bagged a hat-trick and he’s so fair repaid the faith shown in him by Lampard and more. Whether the gaffer will rotate and bring in the experienced Olivier Giroud is yet to be seen but I’ve been impressed with them going forward at least with Mason amount being a key cog in the team too.
Valencia are a club in turmoil at the minute and it’s mismanagement from the top with owner Peter Lim embroiled in various disagreements with the now former manager Marcelinho. The departure of the former Sevilla and Villarreal gaffer is a big blow, he’s someone who is held rightfully in high regard for the jobs he’s done. He is an intense manager who works his players very hard and him leaving could affect work rate I worry.
Maxi Gomez hasn’t started the season that well since his big money move from Celta Vigo but he has the potential to strike up an interesting partnership with the reliable Rodrigo. Gonçalo Guedes is another excellent option going forward. They’ll give it a good go.
Chelsea are without Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger. There are doubts over the fitness of Emerson, N’golo Kante and Reece James too.
Valencia are without Carlos Soler and Christian Piccini which could leave them a bit light on the right hand side.
Potential Chelsea Starting XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Tomori, Zouma, Alonso, Kovacic, Jorginho, Mount, Willian, Pedro, Abraham.
Potential Valencia Starting XI: Cillessen, Wass, Garay, Paulista, Gaya, Kondogbia, Parejo, Torres, Rodrigo, Guedes, Gaimero.
Key Stats & Facts
- Goals have been rife in Chelsea matches this season with an average of 4.4 goals per game so far.
- Valencia lost their last game 5-2 away at Barcelona.
- Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 6 matches against Valencia.
- Chelsea – 4/5
- Draw – 29/10
- Valencia – 7/2
Chelsea look a touch short to me at 4/5, I wouldn’t want to back them at odds-on. However, SkyBet have boosted the hosts to win and concede from 5/2 to 3/1 and I’ll have a bit of that.
Chelsea look like a side that will concede in pretty much every game, they have done so far this season. However they have been excellent at the other end of the pitch and with problems at Valencia I think they should have enough to edge out a high scoring encounter.
