These two fierce Yorkshire rivals have had excellent campaigns respectively with Doncaster currently in a play off position and Barnsley second only to Luton.

Grant McCann's men have been especially good on their own patch this term. They've notched 33 goals in 17 home fixtures, that's an average of around 2 goals a game. Rovers are also unbeaten in their last 9 at the Keepmoat in the league, it'll be no easy task for Barnsley here.

The Tykes have impressed all season and have long being the data darlings in league 1. They're not only excellent going forward, they're extremely proficient at keeping opposition chances to a minimum.

Their recruitment has been clever and it's paying dividends. Ethan Pinnock signed from Forest Green has been a colossus at the back and has garnered interest from clubs higher up. His partnership with Liam Lindsay, another canny addition, has been key to their sides balance this season.

Going forward they have a wealth of options, chiefly the striking threat of Kiefer Moore and Cayley Woodrow. Wingers Mamadou Thism and Jordan Green also provide a threat whereas Dimi Cavare has probably been the best attacking full back, along with Luton's James Justin, in the league this season.

Daniel Stendel's side are unbeaten in 12 and look a serious force. They recorded an xG figure north of 3 last week against Accrington and a respectable draw against Sunderland maintained their unbeaten record.

Team News

Donny have no new injury concerns. Just long term absentees Joe Wright and Ian Lawlor are missing.

Key men Cameron McGeehan and Jacob Brown are suspended for the visitors. Kieffer Moore is out for the rest of the season.

Potential Doncaster Starting XI: Marosi, Sadler, Butler, Downing, Andrew, Blair, Whiteman, Crawford, Wilks, Rowe, Marquis.

Potential Barnsley Starting XI: Davies, Cavare, Pinnock, Lindsay, Pinnilos, Mowatt, Dougall, Brown, Bahre, Thiam, Woodrow.

Key Stats & Facts

  • Barnsley have collected more points in 2019 than any other team in League 1.
  • Barnsley are unbeaten this year.

Betting Odds

  • Doncaster – 2/1
  • Draw – 12/5
  • Barnsley – 6/4

The Verdict

The prices on the outrights look about right to me. Barnsley are in the better form and deserve to be favourites, however Donny have a great home record.

I would want to get the visitors on side here though, they're up there on merit and boast more goalscoring threats than their opposition. We can combine Barnsley ‘double chance' along with under 4 goals to garner a 5/6 quote using Bet365's BetBuilder and that looks a smart way of playing this.

Each of Barnsley's last 6 games would've seen this bet land. Doncaster are winless in their last 5 and all of those games have seen 2 goals or fewer. Earlier in the season these two sides saw plenty of goals in their games but they've dried up of late.

Given this is a South Yorkshire derby I'll have a tickle in the card markets. Two players I like for a card are Tommy Rowe and Kenny Dougall. Both are central midfielders, a highly booked position. Both are on at least 5 cards this season and with them being up giants each other in the middle of the park and the magnitude of this game it's possible that they get into a scuffle.

Betfair go a massive 40/1 on their ‘Same game multi' that the pair get cautioned, the next best price is 18/1. It has to be worth a small play.

Recommended Bets

  • 2pts – Barnsley double chance & Under 4 goals – 5/6 (bet365 BetBuilder)
  • 0.5pts – Tommy Rowe and Kenny Dougall both the be carded – 40/1 (Betfair)
