Doncaster are enjoying a fantastic season so far, which sees them sit 4 points clear in the play offs with a game in hand to extend the gap. They come into the game on the back of consecutive wins in which they put 3 goals past Peterborough and Southend. This is the first time Doncaster have reached the 5th Round of the FA Cup in 63 years, so it is a big achievement for the club.

Palace have picked up in form recently, with only one loss in their last 5 games. Although they sit in 13th place in the Premier League, they are only 3 points away from the drop zone. Safe to say the FA cup is probably not Roy’s focus at this moment. The Eagles will be boosted by the signing of Batshuayi from Chelsea. Although the striker has endured a tough time recently from a couple of loan spells, he actually has a very impressive goal scoring record for Chelsea in terms of minutes per goal.

Palace have failed to really get any sort of form going, which is surprising considering they have got victories against the likes of Man city in the league and Spurs in the previous round of the cup, you would expect them to have picked up more points. Despite it probably being the least of their worries, a strong run in the FA cup may help turn their less than average season onto a more positive note for Roy and his men.

Team News

Doncaster have a full squad to choose from. Meanwhile James Tomkins may be in line for a return after a brief spell out with injury. Speroni is also out with a long-term injury and it would also by unlikely that Kouyate will make a return in time.

Potential Doncaster Starting XI: Marosi, Lewis, Downing, Anderson, Andrew, Crawford, Whiteman, Kane, Coppinger, Marquis, Wilks

Potential Crystal Palace Starting XI: Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka, Kelly, Dann, Van Aanholt, McArthur, Schlupp, Meyer, Townsend, Batshuayi, Benteke.

Head To Head

  • The last 5 matches between the sides has seen 3 draws and a win a piece.
  • They faced of 8 times in 4 seasons when Palace last fell out of the top tier, which Doncaster had the better of the Eagles, with 3 wins to Palace 2.
  • Palace have only 1 away win at Donny in their last 8 attempts.

Key Stats & Facts

  • Both teams come into the game on unbeaten runs, with Doncaster 5 without defeat and Palace 4.
  • Doncaster have scored at least 2 goals in every home match since 23rd of October when they got beat 1-0 by Sunderland.
  • Palace only have 2 wins in their last 10 on the road, although one was their mightily impressive 3-2 victory over Premier League champions Manchester City.

Betting Odds

  • Doncaster 17/4
  • Draw 16/5
  • Crystal Palace 4/7

The Verdict

There is a huge amount of value on the side of Doncaster, given their form. They are 2 leagues below Palace, but they will approach the game with a lot more confidence and knowing a win will put them in the quarter finals would be a huge landmark for the club’s success. I think Doncaster draw no bet is a great play here at 7/2, as it offers slightly more cover than a straight up Doncaster win should the Eagles get a draw our stake would be returned.

Only 3 of Doncaster’s last 10 has failed to produce both teams to score. I would be surprised to see them fail to score, and equally with Palace playing an inferior side it would be a surprise to see them end the tie goalless.
