The Europa League Semi-Final sees the two highest scoring sides go head-to-head as Frankfurt entertain Chelsea on Thursday night in the first leg of this year’s semi-final.
Chelsea will be fighting to get to the final and win the competition so that they are ensured a Champions League place next season. They come up against a tough German outfit that have lost just 1 of their last 12 games at home in all competitions.
Chelsea on the other hand have found life a little tough on the road losing 2 out of their last 5 games in all competitions. They will need to be at their best on Thursday night against what is sure to be a fired up Frankfurt side.
Chelsea will be without Callum Husdon-Odoi after the winger picked up a season ending Achilles injury.
Frankfurt will be without forward Ante Rebicwhio has 10 goals for them this season.
Potential Frankfurt Starting XI: Trapp, Abraham, Hasebe, Hinteregger, da Costa, de Guzman, Fernandes, Rode, Kostic, Jovic, Paciencia
Potential Chelsea Starting XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Willian, Giroud, Hazard
Head To Head
- This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
Key Stats & Facts
- Frankfurt have picked up the most booking points in the competition, they have 29 yellow cards and 3 red cards.
- Frankfurt have scored 2 or more goals in 20 of their last 23 Europa League matches.
- Chelsea have scored at least 2 goals in 7 of their last 8 Europa League matches.

- Frankfurt 9/5
- Draw 12/5
- Chelsea 17/10
This could be a very tricky tie for Chelsea, they come up against a team who are capable of scoring plenty of goals. The Blues will need to be strong at the back and they’ll fancy themselves on the counter attack with Hazard and Willian.
Both sides are known for their goal scoring capabilities and I think in this game we could see goals at both ends. Both teams to score is 13/18 which doesn’t give us a lot of value however we can look at the overs markets and we have both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in the match at 5/4 which again is slim but with the records that both of these teams have you’d fancy that this could be a safer bet than most.
Chelsea’s star player, Eden Hazard, has been boiling under of late in terms of goal scoring having not netted in any competition since he scored 2 against West Ham in early April. The Belgian strangely doesn’t have a Europa League goal this season but what better time to grab one. Hazard is 37/19 (BetHard) to score a goal at any time in the match and with the potential counter attacking style being used by Chelsea and Hazard’s talent you’d have to fancy that he’ll get plenty of opportunities to find the back of the net.
I do think this game will be a close one and Frankfurt will fight hard to take advantage of the home leg but I think this could be the night where Chelsea’s star players shine on a big stage. Both teams to score and Chelsea to win is 4/1 (Bet365) and I think that could be a good value bet. This would have come in 3 times in the last 8 matches in all competitions for the Blues.
