Napoli aim to recover from their tough midweek Champions League clash with Paris Saint Germain when they travel to Genoa on Saturday.
Genoa started off the season rather well, but now find themselves struggling. They are winless in their last five games; they suffered a thumping 5-0 defeat at the San Siro last weekend to Inter as pressure mounts on boss Ivan Juric. Krzysztof Piatek is scoreless since October 7, as the Polish striker’s hype seemed to have died off since his early season rush of goals where he netted 9 times within the first seven games. Despite this, he still is the league’s top goalscorer, one goal ahead of Lazio hitman Ciro Immobile.
Meanwhile, Napoli are still flying. They will be looking for a comprehensive victory to keep up their pressure on league leaders Juventus. They were held 1-1 at home to PSG after Lorenzo Insigne’s penalty cancelled out Juan Bernat’s strike on the stroke of half time. Last weekend, Dries Mertens bagged a hat trick as they thumped Empoli 5-1 and they currently sit equal second – just six points behind Juve.
Napoli are the joint best attacking team in the league, with 24 goals so far. This is a vast contrast to Genoa who hold the second-worst defensive record in Serie A, with 24 goals conceded in 11 games.
Genoa are without Nicolas Spolli and Federico Marchetti for the game, while Sandro is in doubt for the Marassi clash.
Meanwhile, Napoli have a near clean bill of health. Simone Verdi and Vlad Chiriches are their only absentees, but Dries Mertens could be rested for the match as he picked up a shoulder injury against PSG.
Potential Genoa Starting XI: Radu, Biraschi, Zukanovic, Criscito, Pereira, Romulo, Veloso, Bessa, Lazovic, Piatek, Kouame
Potential Napoli Starting XI: Karnezis, Hysaj, Maksimovic, Koulibaly, Malcuit, Rog, Diawara, Ruiz, Zielinski, Milik, Insigne
Key Stats & Facts
- Napoli haven’t lost away to Genoa in their last 12 Serie A matches.
- This is Genoa’s longest winless run since September 2017 – they only have two points from their last five Serie A games.
- Genoa – 11/2
- Draw – 10/3
- Napoli – 1/2
I expect Napoli to have far too much class for this Genoa outfit. Carlo Ancelotti has found his rhythm with his 4-4-2 formation, and I believe that Lorenzo Insigne will wreak havoc on the Genoa defence.
