Juventus will be looking to overturn the 2-0 deficit faced in the first-leg by securing their fourth win in a row in all competitions.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side are unbeaten in Serie A but pressure is mounting on the Juventus manager to produce in the Champions League with Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane linked with the job.
Confidence is high in the Juventus camp but they will need to show an improved outing from the one in Spain.
Atletico Madrid have been in great form since their defeat to rivals Real Madrid, winning five in a row in all competitions.
The Spanish outfit managed to not concede an away goal in the first-leg and they’ll feel like one away goal for themselves will kill off the tie.
With Barcelona bridging a seven-point gap at the top of La Liga, Atletico’s only chance of success is likely to come in the Champions League this season.
The hosts will be without Alex Sandro who is suspended after he picked up his third yellow card of the Champions League in the reverse leg. Sami Khedira, Juan Cuadrado and Douglas Costa are all sidelined with injuries.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Giorgio Chiellini will come back into the side after they were rested against Udinese.
Left-back could prove to be a problem spot for the visitors with Lucas Hernandez and Filipe Luiz both unavailable with injuries. Thomas Partey and Diego Costa are both out due to suspension.
Potential Juventus Starting XI: Szczesny, Sciglio, Chiellini, Bonucci, Cancelo, Matuidi, Bentancur, Pjanic, Dybala, Mandzukic, Ronaldo
Potential Atletico Madrid Starting XI: Oblak, Arias, Gimenez, Godin, Juanfran, Correa, Rodrigo, Niguez, Koke, Morata, Griezmann
Head To Head
- Juventus 0, Draws 1, Atletico Madrid 2
- Juventus are still looking for their maiden goal against the Spanish outfit.
Key Stats & Facts
- Juventus have only suffered one defeat at home this season and that came against Manchester United in the group stages.
- The visitors have won four of their last five Champions League round-of-16 ties.
- Atletico Madrid’s last defeat to Italian opposition in this competition came back in 1970 to Cagliari.
- Juventus 8/11
- Draw 14/5
- Atletico Madrid 79/17
Juventus have only tasted defeat once in front of their own fans this season and they’ll be confident of winning here but the big worry for them will be conceding an away goal.
The visitors know that with defensive injuries, as well as Juventus’ solid home form, that it’s unlikely they’ll be able to keep a clean sheet though their two-goal advantage will be vital.
With both teams often showcasing their goalscoring talents, this could be a second-leg to remember for its drama. However, with both sides desperate not to concede the first goal, it could be a fairly timid start from both.
With both sides likely to be cautious and not wanting to concede in the opening 20 minutes, the game should spring to life around the 25-30 minute mark where the hosts will be eager to score and get themselves back into the tie while the visitors will be hoping that a goal for them around this time will kill off the tie.
