This promises to be one of the most exciting Championship encounters so far this season as Marcelo Bielsa’s enterprising Leeds side host a strong Brentford side.
Leeds fans are buzzing with the way their side is performing under the vastly experienced Argentinian gaffer. One feature of their game is midfielder Kalvin Phillips splitting the centre halves to receive the ball and start attacks, it makes the side more expansive and creates greater options for whoever is on the ball.
The West Yorkshire side have coped with their attacking injuries pretty well with Tyler Roberts filling the boots of Kemar Roofe scoring against Preston and Hull to help his side to victory. Bielsa plays a fluid formation with a base of his famous 3-3-1-3 set-up, full backs are allowed to push up and almost be auxiliary wingers. Luke Ayling and Barry Douglas have performed those roles excellently so far, Douglas is out for this clash though and academy product Tom Pearce could come in.
It could be said that both sides try and play in a similar way. Both are top two for average possession, shots taken per game, key passes and shots conceded per game. It will be an interesting watch to see who comes out on top.
Dean Smith has recently been linked with the vacant Aston Villa job due to his sterling work with the Bees. His side are the data darlings of the Championship, they’re showing a 67% xG ratio, the highest in the league. Quality chance creation has been consistent from the West London outfit with summer recruit Saïd Benrahma at the forefront of it. It’s no surprise to see Neil Maupay top the tree when it comes to the goalscorer readings, he gets plenty of chances in good areas of the pitch and if anything he should have more goals to his name.
Leeds are without Kemar Roofe as mentioned, they’re also without Patrick Bamford and Pablo Hernandez leaving the Whites light in attacking areas. Gaetano Berardi is also unavailable.
Brentford don’t have too many issues but Emmanuel Marcondes is out and Rico Henry is also a doubt.
Potential Leeds Starting XI: Peacock-Farrell, Ayling, Cooper, Jansson, Pearce, Phillips, Klich, Alioski, Saiz, Harrison, Roberts
Potential Brentford Starting XI: Bentley, Dalsgaard, Mepham, Ngoyo, Barbet, McEachran, Yennaris, Benrahma, MacLeod, Watkins, Maupay.
Key Stats & Stats
- Leeds are undefeated in 10 of their last 11.
- Brentford are winless in their last 5 away games.
- Leeds have scored in all but 1 game this season.
- Brentford have also scored in all but 1 game this season
- Leeds – 11/8
- Draw – 27/10
- Brentford – 21/10
Bookmakers are covering the goals angle here with both teams to score priced up at 4/7 but it does look a good bet given the two sides strong performance data.
That price is too short to tip up but if we chuck in Leeds ‘double chance’ to the mix we get an odds against price of 11/10 with 188bet. Brentford have been struggling for wins on the road and Leeds are solid enough at home.
