Ligue 1 Best Bets | Friday 24th May
It’s the season curtain closer in Ligue 1 on Friday evening. Josh Waudby (@Josh_Waudby) has assessed the action and delivered us his best bets.
- 2019 Profit & Loss: +6.15pts
Nantes v Strasbourg
There is little to play for in this mid table clash between two relatively equal sides. Strasbourg have enjoyed a strong season despite the size if their club, and their limited budget. The reverse fixture of this game ended 3-2 to Nantes in a thrilling game, and no prizes for guessing I’m getting goals onside once again. With little to play for often adds to the excitement of these final games, with both sides intent solely on bowing out on a high.
Nantes have been in strong form recently, without a loss in their last 7 games. 5 wins and 2 draws has seen them propelled well out of danger. Strasbourg however are on the contrary, without a win for 7 games. Nantes last 5 games have seen both teams to score in 4 of them, and over 2,5 land in all 5 games. Strasbourg have also seen both teams to score and over 2.5 land in 3 of their previous 5 games.
The bet is Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals, available at evens on Skybet.
Rennes v Lille
Once again this game has relatively no value for either side, given neither side can make an progression that would make much difference. Lille have displayed some incredible performances this season and winning 5-0 last time out against Angers just about summed up the confidence on their players. Nicolas Pepe has been a revelation for Lille this season, with 22 goals and 11 assists. It is unlikely we will see him in a Lille shirt again after this game with many of Europe’s giants knocking at the door.
Rennes haven’t been too bad recently either, undefeated in their last 5 games. Rennes actually knocked Lille out of the Coupe de France and then defeated PSG in the final to claim the prize. Ben Arfa looks to be showing glimpses of his old self, which is what made him one of the most sought-after players when he signed for PSG back in 2016 after his stellar season with Nice.
Having said all of this, I expect Lille to end the season the same way they have carried themselves throughout and wrap up a fantastic season with a final day victory. Lille are as high as 7/5 with Betfair which looks a nice price given they have been in unstoppable form lately. However I do expect Rennes to at least get a goal, since they have only been kept at bay once in their last 10 games.
Lille to win and both teams to score is the bet, available at 3/1 on Bet365 and Betfred.
Angers v St. Etienne
Angers come into the last game on the back of a thumping 5-0 loss to previously mentioned Lille. There recent form in general hasn’t been great with only 2 wins in the last 10, and coming up against a St. Etienne side who have been hard to beat recently, with only 2 losses in their last 10 games.
St Etienne won 3-0 last time out against Nice in a game which on the balance of play they were fortunate to win, forget scoring the 3 goals they did. St Etienne have been having a fabulous end to the season, in their last 10 games they are averaging 2.2 goals per game which I would expect to be plenty enough to put a poor Angers side to bed. To add to the fire Angers haven’t actually won a home game in their last 5 attempts and Etienne have only lost 1 of their last 5 away from home.
Therefore the bet is St Etienne to win, which is best priced at 31/20 with BetVictor or Unibet.
