Liverpool look to continue their perfect record with one of their toughest challenges of the season as in form Leicester come to town. The Reds did play on Wednesday night in a ding-dong battle with Salzburg, it highlighted their defensive deficiencies against a side that were brave and aggressive in possession going forward. Without Joel Matip they struggled to keep control and the ex-Schalke man is once again a doubt for this weekend.

If Leicester have belief in themselves to cause an upset I think they could cause the hosts some problems. It took until the second half at Stamford Bridge to make them think they could genuinely compete, in the end they were unlucky not to win that game. They should be full of confidence after smashing Newcastle for 5 last week and they’ll be encouraged by the Austrians opportunity to create strong goalscoring chances.

That being said it looks a mighty tough task to get anything against Liverpool in their current guise. They’re going for 17 premier league wins on the spin and have further records in their sight. They have a good recent record against Leicester and at home they’re a different beast, scoring plenty. Their adaptability is admirable and they can win in a variety of situations, even when not performing at optimal levels.

Team News

Liverpool are without Allison, Xherdan Shaqiri and Nathaniel Clyne. Centre half Joel Matip is a doubt so Joe Gomez should come in.

Leicester remain without Matty James whilst influential midfielder James Maddison is 50/50.

Potential Liverpool Starting XI: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Potential Leicester Starting XI: Schmeichel, Ricardo, Evans, Soyuncu, Chilwell, N’Didi, Praet, Tielemans, Barnes, Perez, Vardy.

  • Leicester – 13/2

The Verdict

It’s hard to back against Liverpool here, they’re phenomenal at home and always find a way to win. Many will be looking at the 4/9 on them and thinking that’s actually quite big, however they’re so because they’re coming up against a genuine top 4 challenger in Leicester.

We saw Liverpool look very fragile at the back midweek against Salzburg and with Joel Matip likely to miss out again I do think they’re vulnerable against a Leicester side who are fresh off banging in 5 against Newcastle. Therefore I’ll plump for the 2/1 on the hosts to win but also concede. 6 of Liverpool’s wins this season have seen them concede too and they don’t look as watertight at the back as they used to.

I’ll also dip into SkyBet’s request a bet market and I like the look of ‘over 1.5 goals, 5+ Liverpool corners, 3+ Leicester corners, 10+ booking points each team’ which is available at 5/2. Liverpool home games rarely see fewer than 2 goals and the reds average way over 5 corners per game when at Anfield. The hosts do give up some presentable opportunities for their opposition and Leicester can get some chances and rack up a few corners themselves. Liverpool aren’t the heaviest side for cards but Leicester have some tricky players who can draw fouls, likewise Liverpool have dangerous individuals for the visitors to cope with so we should see a booking each at least.
