Underperforming Monaco entertain Angers on Tuesday night as Ligue 1 rolls on into the seventh round of fixtures. Leonardo Jardim’s men have struggled following a mass exodus in the summer, having won just once in their opening six, drawing three, and losing two.
Notably, João Moutinho, Fabinho, Thomas Lemar, and Keita Baldé have left and failure to replace the key quartet is proving costly. Les Monégasques are currently winless in five, position 15th in the standings, and are posting worryingly poor numbers in a range of key performance metrics – on home turf, they are ranking 18th for shots, 19th for shots on target, and 15th for attempts fired in within the penalty area.
Considering this, Monaco may find it hard to break down an experienced Angers outfit who, despite already visiting the Parc des Princes this term, have conceded the second fewest attempts on away soil thus far. Having earnt two wins and a draw in their previous three tussles, Les Scoïstes sit a respectable 11th in the French top tier.
Monaco’s £27m man Aleksandr Golovin may be handed a first start by Leonardo Jardim since his move from CSKA Moscow. The Russian international finally made his debut in red and white on Friday, coming off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Nimes. Danijel Subašić, Rony Lopes, Stevan Jovetić, and Pietro Pellegri remain side-lined for the hosts.
Angers could name an unchanged line-up from the team who drew with Toulouse last Saturday.
Potential Monaco Starting XI: Benaglio, Henrichs, Jemerson, Glik, Sidibé, Aït Bennasser, Golovin, Tielemans, Chadli, Grandsir, Falcao.
Potential Angers Starting XI: Butelle, Bamba, Traoré, Pavlović, Manceau, Santamaria, Tait, N’Doye, Capelle, Reine-Adelaide, Bahoken.
Head To Head
- Angers have played Monaco six times since their promotion from Ligue 2 in 2015. Within this period, they hold a W1, L5 record against the principality club.
- Tuesday’s hosts have defeated their opponents in each of the previous three meetings at the Stade Louis II (1-0, 2-1, 1-0).
Key Stats & Facts
- Radamel Falcao has featured twice for Les Monégasques against Angers. He’s scored on both occasions.
- Last season, the visitors drew 10 of their 20 fixtures against teams who finished in the top half of the table. 12 of these saw less than three goals scored. On away soil, six of their 10 meetings with the same calibre of sides saw a stalemate, with seven of these producing no more than two conversions.
- Monaco – 47/50
- Draw – 11/4
- Angers – 7/2
This is a must win for Monaco after a below-par start but, considering the performance data, they may struggle to create chances. Without the attacking influences of Rony Lopes, Stevan Jovetić, and Pietro Pellegri, the hosts will be reliant on Radamel Falcao to produce the goods. Collectively, half of these sides’ 12 games have produced less than three conversions, so at 11/10, Under 2.5 Goals appeals.
