This game comes at an interesting time for both sides, it could potentially be a make or break situation for both of them. I would say both manager’s days are numbered but it doesn’t actually seem to be the case. Solskjaer has one of the worst records for United managers in recent years but there seems to be no inkling at all that a dismissal is on the horizon. Equally Bruce is doing a poor job at Newcastle, horrifying the Magpies are averaging just 33% possession in the PL this season, which is never going to end well.

United’s bright sparks this season seem to be the youngsters. James and McTominay have won the POTM awards respectively, and recently Greenwood has started to get some time and goals under his belt. The new signings this summer seem to have been integrated well though, Maguire, James and Wan Bissaka have arguably been 3 of United’s best players this season and it’s a wonder to think where they would be without them.

Newcastle’s new man Joelinton has shown plenty of promise, but a striker like him needs service, of which he isn’t getting. Almiron shows glimpses of how good he can be but his consistency is questionable to say the least. Should Alan Saint-Maxim get himself on a good run injury free he could be the perfect player to work alongside Joelinton and get the frontman firing.

Team News

Both teams are plagued with absences. Newcastle currently missing Lejeune, Ritchie Gayle all through injury, aswell as Hayden after his horrific challenge earned him a red card against Leicester last week.

United take the injury list to the next step, having Bailly, Fosu-Mensah, Pogba, Lingard, Jones and Martial all injured, with numerous more doubtful for the clash.

Potential Newcastle Starting XI: Dubravka, Yedlin, Lascelles, Schar, Dummett, Longstaff, Ki, Maxin, Almiron, Muto, Joelinton

Potential United Starting XI: De Gea, Shaw, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Wan-Bissaka, Pereira, Matic, McTominay, Mata, Rashford, James

  • Manchester United 6/7

The Verdict

Given how poor both these sides have been it’s hard to take a punt on who will turn up and who won’t. Interestingly Newcastle have seen all of their home games be level at the break and given how difficult both these teams seem to be finding it to score I think it’s worth the odds we are getting offered. United didn’t even manage a SOT midweek against Alkmaar in what was one of the dullest matches of football I’ve personally ever witnessed.

I do think however given United’s extremely large injury list and what could be considered a makeshift team, Joelinton at 15/4 to score anytime is a great price. The front man has a huge presence and will be a lot to deal with, especially if Maguire is partnered with youngster Tuanzebe. This one isn’t statistically as backed up as most bets it’s more of spotting the value.
