PSG will be looking to pick up their first win of their Group C Champions League qualifying campaign against Serbian side Crvena Zvezda this week, after falling to Liverpool in their opening game.
PSG looked sloppy and generally disappointing at Anfield in the opener and were outplayed for large parts. They are now already playing catch-up and will be looking for a big win here to get their campaign under way.
As for their opponents, Crvena Zvezda, (or Red Star Belgrade) they opened with a very impressive point at home to Napoli and will play in the exact same way they did there, at PSG on Wednesday.
However, the odds suggest that this is about as one sided as it gets in terms of Champions League games with PSG best priced at 1/11 and Crvena Zvezda way out at 45/1.
The French champions have won all of their opening eight games in the league, scoring 27 goals and conceding just six, averaging three goals a game. Their Serbian counterparts have won nine of their opening 10 league games and themselves have been free-scoring, with 28 goals scored and just five conceded.
Despite the league form, this tournament is different and whilst the Serbian side will be difficult to play away from home, they will not be able to keep the likes of Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani out.
Cavani was rested by Thomas Tuchel at the weekend and will return to this side here. Gianluigi Buffon serves out his final match of his two-game ban here but Marco Veratti could come in after serving his ban against Liverpool. Layvin Kurzawa and Dani Alves are still out through injury and Julian Draxler, Thomas Meunier and Jese are doubts.
Nikola Stojiljkovic is ruled out for the visitors and Vujadin Savic is a doubt but otherwise, they could go with the same side that drew with Napoli.
Potential PSG Starting XI: Areola; Kehrer, Marquinhos, Silva, Bernat; Rabiot, Verratti; Mbappe, Neymar, Maria; Cavani
Potential Crvena Zvezda Starting XI: Borjan; Stojkovic, Babic, Degenek, Rodic; Krsticic, Jovicic; Ben, Causic, Marin; Boakye
- These two sides have never played each other in competitive competition.
Key Stats & Facts
- PSG are averaging 3.2 goals a game in all competitions this season and have scored at least three in all of their league games this season.
- Crvena Zvezda have conceded just five goals so far this season.
- PSG – 1/11
- Draw – 14/1
- Crvena Zvezda – 45/1
PSG will have been very disappointed with their defeat to Liverpool in the opening fixture but they have won their last three games since that game, scoring 10 goals in the process.
Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani will be looking at this game and thinking they can each grab a few goals and will be wanting a big win.
Whilst the away side will come and try and maintain their opponents for as long as they can, PSG will have far too much quality and we should expect them to win big here. Cavani was rested at the weekend and I expect him to get on the scoresheet at least once.
