Real Madrid may have started this campaign slowly, losing to CSKA in Russia back in October, but their win over Roma in the last round means that Los Blancos are confirmed as group winners.

CSKA will have thought qualification through to the next round was a real possibility after that 1-0 win over the reigning champions, but have failed to win any of their last three since then and are now left with fighting for a Europa League place.

The Russians are level on points with Victoria Plzen, who play Roma in the other game and must better the Czech’s result if they are to finish third. As for Madrid, they have nothing to play for in this match and will likely rest their key players here.

Despite the fact Madrid have nothing to play for, their home form in this competition is a bit of a joke. They have suffered two defeats at the Bernabeu since 2015 and have lost just four of their last 20 matches, home or away, in the Champions League.

Moscow have won just four of their last nine away matches in this competition and are left to try and salvage a Europa League spot. Madrid will rest key members but they will still possess enough talent to win this game, with players wanting to stick their hands up for team selection further into the tournament.

Team News

Nacho is out for the home side, whilst Casemiro is unlikely to be risked, as he is a doubt. Santiago Solari is expected to make changes, as Los Blancos have already won the group.

Viktor Vasin is unavailable due to injury, whilst Ilzat Akhmetov, Mario Fernandes, Alan Dzagoev and Abel Hernandez will all face late fitness tests.

Potential Real Madrid Starting XI: Navas; Odriozola, Varane, Ramos, Reguilon; Ceballos, Llorente, Isco; Vasquez, Mariano, Valverde

Potential CSKA Moscow Starting XI: Akinfeev; Becao, Chernov, Nababkin; Fernandes, Akhmetov, Bijol, Oblyakov; Vlasic, Sigurdsson; Chalov

Head To Head

  • These two sides have faced each other three times, all of which have come in the Champions League. The current record stands at one win a piece and one draw. CSKA won the reverse fixture back in October in Russia.

Key Stats & Facts

  • Madrid have scored at least 2 goals in seven of their last 8 matches in the UCL.
  • Los Blancos have won five of their last six matches in the Champions League.
  • CSKA have lost their last three in this group.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in five of CSKA’s last six games in this competition.

Betting Odds

  • Madrid – 2/9
  • Draw – 13/2
  • CSKA – 14/1

The Verdict

This game is unlikely to be a classic and will probably end up being a bit of a procession.

Isco, Vasquez and Mariano are all expected to start and they will all be keen to impress the manager and against a side who are particularly poor away from home in the Champions League, you would expect Madrid to win this comfortably.

Madrid are clear favourites but there is little value in their 2/9 price, so you should be looking at Madrid in the goal markets or the handicap.
