Injury-ridden Roma host Inter tonight as the Giallorossi aim for some consistency in the league.
The Giallorossi have been one of the Serie A’s most inconsistent outfits so far this season; last weekend they were sunk by a Rodrigo De Paul-inspired Udinese 1-0 in yet another disappointing performance. Despite their form, they still sit seventh and just four points shy of the top four.
However, nobody will be feeling the pressure more than Eusebio Di Francesco. Reports last week suggested that he had two games to save his job – a midweek 2-0 loss at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League means that Di Francesco is in dire straits for a win against the Nerazzurri.
Meanwhile, former Roma manager Luciano Spalletti’s Inter are finally flying high. They sit in third place, one point behind Napoli, and look to be one of the certainties to finish in the top four and earn a 2019/20 Champions League spot. Inter boast the league’s third-best attack with 25 goals so far and the competition’s second-best defence with just 10 goals conceded so far.
Last weekend, the Nerazzurri defeated Frosinone 3-0, however were downed 1-0 by Tottenham in their Champions League match. This match could potentially have damaged their chances of progressing to the Round of 16, as they now need to beat PSV while hoping Barcelona beat Spurs.
As aforementioned, Roma are in an injury crisis. Edin Dzeko, Stephan El Shaarawy, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Daniele De Rossi are certainly going to miss the match, while Javier Pastore and Diego Perotti are doubtful.
Meanwhile, Inter will be missing Sime Vrsaljko and Dalbert, while Radja Nainggolan limped off before half time in their midweek game and is in doubt for this encounter.
Potential Roma Starting XI: Olsen, Florenzi, Manolas, Jesus, Kolarov, Nzonzi, Cristante, Under, Zaniolo, Kluivert, Schick
Potential Inter Starting XI: Handanovic, D’Ambrosio, De Vrij, Skriniar, Asamoah, Gagliardini, Valero, Joao Mario, Politano, Icardi, Perisic
Key Stats & Facts
- Roma have only lost one of their last nine games against Inter at the Olimpico.
- Inter have won seven of their last nine away games in Serie A – the best record in the league in that timeframe.
- Roma 9/5
- Draw – 5/2
- Inter Milan – 48/29
I can’t see Inter dropping the three points in this game. Roma have not kept a clean sheet in their last five games. With Inter’s great defensive record also, Roma’s young and inexperienced attack just won’t be enough to take something out of this game.
I expect a comfortable win by Inter, with over 2.5 goals being scored in this fixture.
