Sampdoria host Napoli on Sunday in Serie A and will be looking for an improvement on their 1-0 loss to Udinese. They have only played once in the league so far, compared to Napoli playing twice. This was due to the fatal bridge collapse in Genoa which resulted in their opening game against Fiorentina being postponed. They have also played against Serie C side, Viterbese in the Coppa Italia, where they were unconvincing 1-0 winners. Sampdoria were decent at home last term having won 12 out of 19 but struggled against the top 5. Their home games were averaging almost 3 goals a game. They will be hoping that veteran attacker, Quagliarella, can try and emulate last season’s goal tally of 19.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli have registered 2 victories in their opening 2 games against Lazio and AC Milan, but they did it the hard way. They conceded first in both games to come back and claim the 3 points. Against AC Milan, they were 2-0 down after 49 minutes, but 2 goals from Zielinski and an 80th minute Dries Mertens goal produced a superb comeback to seal the win. They may have lost manager Sarri and midfielder Jorginho, both to Chelsea, but they certainly haven't lost their entertainment and eye for goal. They scored on average 2 goals a game in the league last season and have already scored 5 in 2.

Napoli had the joint best away record last season, along with Juve, and won 14 on the road. But considering Samp were strong at home last season the 1.55 for Napoli to win offers no value. Napoli have had the better hand in this game along the years and you have to go back as far as 2010 for the last time Sampdoria beat Napoli. One thing this fixture does bring are goals. There have been 43 goals between them across their last 10 H2H fixtures with both sides scoring in 8 of these. 50% of these games had at least 5 goals and 3 of the last 5 at Sampdoria have seen at least 6 goals! Considering this and Napoli’s first 2 games the 2.88 for Over 3.5 is slightly tempting.

Team News

Sampdoria have no fresh concerns but will still be without defender Dennis Praet.

Napoli will be without Ghoulam, Meret and new signing Amin Younes who arrived in the summer from Ajax.

Potential Sampdoria Starting XI: Audero, Bereszynski, Andersen, Colley, Murru, Ekdal, Barreto, Linetty, Ramirez, Quagliarella, Defrel

Potential Napoli Starting XI: Karnezis, Hysaj, Albiol, Koulibaly, Rui, Allan, Hamsik, Zielinski, Insigne, Milik, Mertens

The Verdict

It's hard to see past a Napoli win and goals. Given their performances so far, you’d imagine Sampdoria will get some chances to score. The 9/4 on offer for Sampdoria to score first is appealing considering that Napoli have conceded first in both their opening games and that Sampdoria scored first in 68% of games last season.
