High-flying Sassuolo are at home to Milan on Sunday following their midweek triumph, as pressure mounts on Gennaro Gattuso on the AC Milan bench.
Sassuolo have enjoyed a fantastic start to the campaign under new boss Roberto De Zerbi, only losing once inside their opening six games – a 2-1 loss to Juventus. They have won four games while drawing one, and have been victorious in their past two. Midweek, they defeated SPAL 2-0 to move up to third on the table, and they are the competition’s highest scoring team thus far. De Zerbi will be hoping for a resilient performance by his men, and will enter the game knowing that maximum points in this fixture is more than just a pipe dream.
On the other side, Milan are in a world of pain. The pressure is starting to mount on Gennaro Gattuso’s credibility as a manager after three successive draws against lesser opposition. They drew 1-1 midweek away to Empoli after Alessio Romagnoli gave away a penalty in the 71st minute. However, their ability to convert chances is what worries fans. They had 24 shots to Empoli’s 3, with 10 of those being on target, however only managed the one goal.
Mattia Caldara is injured for Milan, along with long-term absentees Ivan Strinic and Andrea Conti. Gonzalo Higuain was a late out for his side against Empoli, with the Argentine still to be assessed.
Federico Peluso and Alfred Duncan are the only notable outs for Sassuolo, so De Zerbi has almost a full squad to choose from for the clash.
Potential Sassuolo Starting XI: Consigli, Lirola, Magnani, Ferrari, Rogerio, Bourabia, Locatelli, Sensi, Berardi, Boateng, Di Francesco
Potential AC Milan Starting XI: Donnarumma, Abate, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Kessie, Biglia, Bonaventura, Suso, Cutrone, Calhanoglu
Stats & Facts
- Milan are unbeaten against Sassuolo since 2016.
- There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Sassuolo’s last three games against Milan.
- Sassuolo have won five from their past six home games.
- Sassuolo – 12/5
- Draw – 5/2
- AC Milan 13/10
My best bet for this game is a Sassuolo win and both teams to score. 188BET has this market at 47/10 – very great value. Milan’s lack of potency up front is alarming, and I personally can’t see them breaking through Sassuolo’s defence more than once. Sassuolo, however, have the ability to find the scoreboard more than once throughout this fixture and I think a win for Roberto De Zerbi’s men is a plausible bet.
