With Liverpool a point behind and six games to play, winning all of their remaining six and one slip up from City and the title is once again theirs after almost 20 years of being bequeathed from it.

Klopp’s men are a credible 2/1 to lift the title, but feel although there are six games to go, it will feel a lengthy end, especially for all those left in the hunt. Southampton are only five points from the drop zone, so no means safe whatsoever. With two wins from the last five, it is probable they will survive, but the class of Liverpool going top of the table will put City back on the next move.

Team News

Jannik Vestergaard and Michael Obafemi are not available for consideration, whereas Shane Long should make the lineup.

Lemina is also now available and might make a case to be in the starting line-up for the clash.

Virgil van Dijk is a doubt but Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are unlikely to make the cut.

Naby Keita and Fabinho possibly could return possibly in favour of Milner and Henderson, while Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri could also make the starting eleven.

Potential Southampton Starting XI: Gunn, Valery, Bedarek, Yoshida, Betrand, Hajberg, Romeu, Armstrong, Ward-Prowse, Ings and Redmond

Potential Liverpool Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Dijk, Robertson, Keita, Fabinho, Wiknaldum, Salah, Firmino and Mane

Head To Head

Key Stats & Facts

  • Liverpool have achieved a clean sheet in their last four encounters and are 21/20 with Corals and Ladbrokes to make it five.
  • Klopp’s men have been winning at half time and full time in five of their last seven games and are 23/20 with Ladbrokes to support this strong stat

The Verdict

Liverpool have had quite the season to be proud of, but if they result in finishing second the fans will say this was not good enough.

Klopp’s men have been effective in their last recent six doing what is necessary to get the win. This has included their Champions League supremacy versus Bayern Munich only a few weeks ago. Since narrow victories against Fulham and Spurs may make my recommendation a little cagey for some, but Southampton have managed to score in five of the last six. However, a firm believer in the balance of probabilities, the obvious bet would be to go for the Liverpool and both to score market.

However, looking at the goal difference, Liverpool need to curtail the goals being conceded. Southampton on the other hand will want to keep the game tight. With Liverpool’s class and greater need is difficult to overlook the opportunity to go top of the Premier League with City in cup action.

I do think Liverpool to win without conceding is a runner at 11/8 with their match odds at a skinny 4/9. Punters may prefer the Liverpool/both to score at 9/4, but when you have Southampton at BIG 4/5 but Liverpool to keep a clean sheet is 21/20, which is value. With Liverpool at just 1/10 to score, indicates a 13/10 shot at winning without conceding. Paddy Power are 11/8, which is a smidgen of value here.
