Wolves will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing departure from the FA cup last week with a win on the South Coast against Southampton.
Nuno has a big job on boosting his troops after they bottled a 2-0 lead to eventually crash out of the cup. They were comfortable for the majority of that game but paid the price for constantly dropping deeper and eventually Watford’s pressure told.
It’s not going to be easy though, they’re now coming up against a Saints side who have scored in 13 of their last 16 league games. They’ve improved at St Mary’s too, the recent loss against Liverpool is no disgrace and Ralph Hassenhuttl will be hoping for another win here.
The hosts are probably safe from relegation now so will try and play in an enterprising style, whilst their output going forward has improved, they do still tend to concede. This could well be something Wolves try to make the most of.
Southampton are only without Mario Lemina and Michael Obafemi. Danny Ings returns after being ineligible last week against his parent club Liverpool.
Wolves currently have a clean bill of health.
Potential Southampton Starting XI: Gunn, Valery, Bednarek, Yoshida, Vestergaard, Bertrand, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Hojberg, Redmond, Ings.
Potential Wolves Starting XI: Patricio, Doherty, Boly, Coady, Bennett, Johnny, Moutinho, Dendoncker, Neves, Jota, Jimenez.
Key Stats & Facts
- Southampton have seen over 2.5 goals land in 8 of their last 10 home games.
- Wolves have scored two or more in 5 of their last 6 fixtures against the Saints.
- Southampton have scored in 14 of their last 16 games.
- Southampton – 13/8
- Draw – 12/5
- Wolves – 21/10
I like the look of both teams to get on the scoresheet here and I was surprised that we could get a quote as big as even-money. 75% of games at St Mary’s has seen this bet land and only one away side has failed to score on the south coast in the last 11.
What’s more, Wolves are partial to conceding on the road of late having done so in each of their last 12 away from their Molineux base.
