Spain enter this fixture in great form as they’ve defeated the likes Norway, Malta and the Faroe Islands prior to taking on the Scandinavian side. The side boasting some of Europe’s elite currently top the group with Sweden trailing by two points, meaning that victory for Janne Andersson’s side will put Sweden top of the table.
Furthermore, Spain have demonstrated their ruthless nature in front of goal as they’ve netted on eight occasions in a matter of three games. Luis Enrique’s side doesn’t consist of an out-and-out danger and instead favours multiple different threats across the starting eleven. Moreover, Spain have had five different scorers during the European qualifiers.
On the other hand, Sweden travel to the Santiago Bernabeu also in fine form. Andersson’s men are yet to taste defeat during the European qualifiers but sit just behind the Spaniards in second due to a draw against rivals Norway.
Much like Spain, Sweden have shown their prolific nature when it comes to finding the back of the net. The Scandinavian outfit have also converted eight this campaign but signs have started to emerge that their defence is less impressive than their attack. Sweden have conceded four during the European qualifiers but their recent clean sheet against Malta could be a positive sign of things to come.
Santi Cazorla will feature for the international squad following a four-year absence to the side. However, Luis Enrique will not be attending the game as he will be absent due to personal reasons. Whereas Sweden have a fully-fit squad at their disposal.
Potential Spain Starting XI: Kepa, Navas, Ramos, Hermoso, Gaya, Roberto, Rodrigo, Cazorla, Aspas, Morata, Isco
Potential Sweden Starting XI: Olsen, Lustig, Jansson, Helander, Augstinsson, Claesson, Olsson, Ekdal, Forsberg, Berg, Quaison
Head To Head
- Spain and Sweden haven’t faced each other since the European Championships in 2008, where Spain ran out victorious.
Key Stats and Facts
- Sweden have only defeated Spain on two occasions in recent history, this coming in 2006 and 1988.
- Sweden have conceded two or more goals in two separate games.
- Spain – 1/4
- Draw – 19/4
- Sweden – 10/1
This fixture is a game with goals written all over it. With both scoring as many as eight goals within these European qualifiers, backing over 4.5 goals would be a wise idea. Furthermore, both Sweden and Spain are susceptible to conceding goals as well as finding the back of the net. In addition to this, a large proportion of both sides' goals have been converted during the first half, which suggests that Spain and Sweden are more than capable of getting a good start out of the blocks. Therefore, William Hill’s 13/2 bet for both teams to score in the opening 45 minutes would appear to be a sensible investment.
