Well, Celtic's Champions League campaign didn't exactly go to plan, so it appears that Europa League football will be occupying The Bhoys Thursday nights from now on. In their most recent continental fixture, Celtic suffered a aggregate defeat to AEK Athens which saw the Scottish champions crash out of the Champions League.
Furthermore, Brendan Rodger's side have also suffered defeat within the Scottish Premiership within recent times, narrowly losing to Hearts who currently sit top of the table.
Lithuanian side Suduva, on the other hand, are the only thing that stands in the away of The Bhoys progressing to the group stage of the Europa League. Prior to this fixture, Suduva defeated Latvian side Spartak Jurmula to set-up the fixture against Brendan Rodger's side.
This side currently sit top of Lithuania's domestic league and have reached competitions such as the UEFA Cup in the past, with Celtic fans almost certainly having fond memories of this fixture.
Brendan Rodger's has recently announced that centre-back Dedryck Boyata could ‘absolutely play' despite transfer rumours occurring. Furthermore, Australian starlet, Daniel Arzani, may feature within this fixture following the completion of his recent loan move to the club. FK Suduva have no injuries or suspensions to report.
Potential FK Suduva Starting XI: Kardum; Slavickas, Jankauskas, Gayduchik, Svrljuga; Guilherme, Leimonas, Vezevicius, Cadenovic, Verbickas, Cicillia
Potential Celtic Starting XI: Gordon; Lustig, Simunovic, Hendry, Tierney; Hayes, Brown, Rogic, Sinclair; Griffiths, Dembele
Head To Head
- These two teams have met before and it was certainly a memorable occasion for the Celtic fans. The Bhoys defeated Suduva 10-1 on aggregate during their 2002/03 campaign in the UEFA Cup, with Larsson grabbing a hat-trick that day.
Key Stats & Facts
- In comparison to their home form, Celtic have struggled on the road this season – drawing or losing a large proportion of their fixtures.
- Suduva – 13/2
- Draw – 7/2
- Celtic – 2/5
Although Celtic have struggled within recent times under Brendan Rodgers, I do believe they will get the win over the Lithuanian side. The quality of the side should overpower Suduva, however, the Scottish side are most likely going to take the lead during the second half based on their recent results.
