Tuesday gives us an absolute thigh rubber of a match as Tottenham take on Man City in their new stadium. Spurs got their chance to settle into their new home as they beat Crystal Palace 2-0 thanks to goals from Son and Eriksen. Spurs produced a tremendous performance over 2 legs in the last 16 against Dortmund and they’ll need to produce a similar display if they are to get past a Man City side who are well on course for the Quadruple.

Man City have been fighting on 4 fronts this season and they already have 1 trophy in the cabinet. They have been in tremendous form throughout the season and they’ll be confident of getting a positive result to take back to the Etihad but they will have to contend with a ferocious atmosphere on Tuesday and they haven’t had it all their own way in the competition so far.

Team News

Eric Dier, Serge Aurier and Erik Lamela are all expected to miss out for Tottenham, but Pochettino has no fresh injury concerns from the team that faced Palace last time out.

As for City, their main injury concern surrounds the fitness of Sergio Aguero. The Argentine missed out against Brighton but has returned to training ahead of the European affair and should start.

Fabian Delph is also back in training ahead of the clash, but Kyle Walker is expected to miss out with a hamstring strain while current first-choice left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is also a huge doubt.

Potential Tottenham Starting XI: Lloris, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Trippier, Sissoko, Eriksen, Alli, Rose; Son, Kane

Potential Manchester City Starting XI: Ederson; Danilo, Laporte, Otamendi, Mendy; Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne; Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero

Head To Head

  • Tuesday will bring the 157th competitive meeting between the two teams. City lead the head-to-head 61 wins to Tottenham's 60, with the remaining 35 matches finishing level.
  • City have been victorious in each of the last three meetings between the two sides, though, including a 1-0 success at Wembley in the Premier League earlier this season.
  • Tottenham's last win over City was a 2-0 home success in October 2016.

Key Stats & Facts

  • Spurs have lost the last 4 meetings between the 2 sides.
  • Manchester City have are currently on a 14 game winning streak in all competitions.

Betting Odds

  • Spurs 7/2
  • Draw 3/1
  • Man City 7/8

The Verdict

This game should be a cracker and Spurs will need to pick up a good result if they are to stand any chance in the second leg at the Etihad. Spurs will most likely look to contain City and play on the counter attack and with the pace and quality that they have in attack I think they should be able to break City down and find the back of the net.

The most likely player to do that would be Harry Kane who is 33/20 (Winner Sports) to score at any time during the match. Kane has 5 goals in 7 appearances in the Champions League this season and he has 6 goals in his last 9 appearances in all competitions.  He is the focal point of this Spurs side and I think he could cause some real issues for Otamendi and Laporte who will be tasked with keeping him quiet.

A lot is made of the impact that Fernandinho has on this City side and you can see how valuable he is when he doesn’t play. He is a top player in the position he plays and Spurs will need to get him out of his comfort zone if they are to worry Manchester City.  The Brazilian will have to contain a very talented Spurs midfield and I think with Spurs most likely playing on the counter attack he could find his way into the referee’s notebook. Fernandinho has 3 yellow cards in this season’s competition and has just come back from a suspension. He is 2/1 (Bet365) to be shown a card in this game.

Recommended Bets
