Walsall v Barnsley Betting Preview, Odds & Tips
- Date: 23/03/19
- Time: 12:00 pm
- Venue: Banks' Stadium
- Channel: SkySports MainEvent
Two teams fighting it out at opposite ends of the table meet at the Banks' stadium for the live game on Saturday noon. Barnsley are gunning for promotion whereas Walsall are part of a mega 13 team relegation battle.
The Tykes were in action on Friday night in a South Yorkshire derby against Doncaster which ended goalless. Defensively they were excellent, particularly centre halves Ethan Pinnock and Liam Lindsay. The pair have drawn admirable glances from teams higher up and its testament to the clubs' canny recruitment policy. Goalkeeper Adam Davies has been superb between the sticks this season, but even more so recently. The trio have been solid and the results have shown that as they haven't conceded a goal in 460 minutes.
Walsall aren't so watertight at the back comparatively. The Saddlers have conceded 2 or more goals 19 times this season. After a strong start to the season which saw them go unbeaten in 7 from the campaign kick off.
They've faltered since then though, winning only 6 games leaving then precariously positioned inside the relegation zone on goal difference. A win here though would see them go from 21st to 13th! For a few hours at least…
Kory Roberts and Adam Chambers remains sidelined for the hosts.
Barnsley welcome back Cameron McGeehan and Jacob Brown back from their respective bans. Kieffer Moore and Kenny Dougall are rules out though.
Potential Walsall Starting XI: Roberts, Devlin, Guthrie, Fitzwater, Leahy, Ismail, Kinsella, Edwards, Dobson, Ferrier, Cook.
Potential Barnsley Starting XI: Davies, Cavare, Pinnock, Lindsay, Pinillos, Williams, McGeehan, Mowatt, Brown, Thiam, Woodrow.
Key Stats & Facts
- Barnsley are unbeaten in their last 18 league 1 games.
- Barnsley have kept 6 clean sheets on the bounce.
- Walsall have won just 3 of their last 16 league games.
- Walsall have conceded 5 goals in their last 2 games.
- Walsall – 4/1
- Draw – 3/1
- Barnsley – 3/4
With Barnsley so hard to beat and their rarity in conceding along with Walsall's defensive deficiencies I have to get the visitors on side.
At 3/4 they look a fair price but with not many goals being featured in their games I'll boost it to an odds against price of 21/20 by chucking in under 4.5 goals. Because the pressure is on in the final straight I'd expect Barnsley not to go gung ho all game and they have a strong clean sheet record so it looks worth taking the enhanced price.
