Watford have made a fine start to the season with two wins from two. Javi Gracia’s side beat Brighton 2-0 before winning 3-1 away at Burnley last Sunday.

The Spaniard has tinkered and now has the Hornets operating with two up top, Andre Gray and Troy Deeney.

They line-up quite narrow in midfield, with Will Hughes and Roberto Pereyra playing as number 10’s rather than wingers, ahead of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Etienne Capoue.

Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace lost 2-0 to Liverpool at Selhurst Park on Monday, but perhaps that game was closer than the scoreline suggests.

Liverpool took the lead through a questionable penalty, and then killed the game late-on via a counter-attack.

Palace beat Fulham 2-0 on the opening day to make it 22-games unbeaten against teams outside of the top-six. That’s no mean feat and is testament to the way Hodgson has his side set up.

Last season the Eagles allowed the fewest expected goals of teams outside the top-six. They’ve also scored in 11 of their last 12 away games, scoring two or more goals in six of those.

Watford have done their best work at home since Gracia took charge, producing a record of W5-D3-L1. They’ve scored in eight of those nine, with the exception funny enough, coming against Palace.

Five of those 11 games have seen Over 2.5 goals, as have 7 of Palace’s last 12 on their travels.

Over 2.5 goals is the outsider here at 5/4.

Team News

Watford are without a wealth of midfield talent as Tom Cleverley, Nathaniel Chalobah, and Gerard Deulofeu are still absent.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is suspended, while long-term absentee Scott Dann remains out.

Potential Watford Starting XI: Foster; Janmaat, Cathcart, Kabasele, Holebas; Doucoure, Capoue; Hughes, Pereyra; Deeney, Gray

Potential Crystal Palace Starting XI: Hennessey; Ward, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt; Townsend, Milivojevic, McArthur, Schlupp; Zaha, Benteke

The Verdict

A case can be made for both sides, and that’s reflected in the prices. Palace tend to thrive in these sort of games, as is evident in their record against teams outside of the top-six under Hodgson. They are capable of troubling anyone going forwards, while Watford’s flying start has shown they are too strong in attack. Over 2.5 goals offers a touch of value at 5/4. The Draw is also worth keeping on side at 58/25.

Recommended Bets
