The Premier League is back again on Saturday and we have a meaty London Derby to look forward too. West Ham take on Tottenham at the London Stadium looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat last time out against Brighton, whilst Spurs are looking for a 4th league win in a row.
West Ham started the season in dreadful fashion but have since picked up gaining 7 points in their last 4 games with an impressive victory at home against Manchester United. Despite this recent upturn in form the Hammers are still in the midst of their worst beginning to a Premier League campaign. Their recent record against Spurs is encouraging though as the Hammers have won 3 out of their last 5 competitive fixtures against their London neighbours.
West Ham are outsiders to win the match but they could find encouragement with Spurs potentially missing a few key players such as Dele Ali, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose. The Hammers will look to in-form striker Marco Arnautovic to grab the goals needed to win on Saturday. The Austrian has 4 goals in the league so far this season and he is 6/1(Royal Panda) to score first at the London stadium.
Spurs, as I mentioned previously, are in good form and will be playing with confidence but with key players missing and a feisty atmosphere they’re going to need to dig deep to get 3 points. Luckily they have one of the best strikers in the world in Harry Kane. Kane led Gareth Southgate’s brave boys to a famous win against Spain in Seville on Monday night and he contributed with 2 assists. Kane has 5 goals this season and talk of him and his team being tired seems to have disappeared. Kane is best priced 56/19 (Unibet)
Spurs are favourites to win the match, they have won all of their away matches with a goal difference of +6. I wouldn’t be siding with Spurs to be dishing out a gubbing on Saturday but I’d definitely be looking to side with them taking all 3 points. Tottenham to win and both teams to score is 12/5 (Bet365) and I think that could be a good way to go in this one. It’ll be a tense local derby and West ham do possess enough quality to cause Spurs problems at a stadium where they have struggled defensively. They should eventually prove too good for the Hammers with the likes of Kane and Lucas causing them problems. Lucas is one player I particularly like; he’s skilful, has pace and has shown good finishing ability. I think he benefits from being close to Harry Kane and he could get some joy against a leaky West Ham backline. He is 7/1 (betfred) to score first and 2/1 (Skybet) to score at any time.
Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele are back in the frame to face West Ham on Saturday.
Playmaker Eriksen has missed our last four games with an abdominal injury while midfielder Mousa has been sidelined for the last two matches with a thigh problem.
West Ham will be without Jack Wilshere who picked up another injury this week.
Potential West Ham Starting XI: Fabianski, Zabaleta, Balbuena, Diop, Masuaku, Rice, Yarmolenko, Noble, Obiang, Anderson, Arnautovic.
Potential Turkey Starting XI: Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Alderwiereld, Davies, Eriksen, Dembele, Dier, Son, Lucas, Kane
Head To Head
- Spurs are unbeaten in their last 3 games against West Ham.
- None of the last five meetings hosted by the Hammers have ended in a draw.
Key Stats & Facts
- Five of West Ham’s last eight league games have produced over 2.5 goals.
- All but one of Tottenham’s five away games have produced over 2.5 goals.
- West Ham 16/5
- Draw 29/10
- Spurs 19/20
Spurs will go into this game full of confidence after their recent performances but they’ll be up against a West Ham side that will be desperate to prove the critics wrong.
The return of Eriksen and Dembele will provide Spurs with a big boost and I think the added quality to the side will help see them over the line in what will be a tasty London derby.
