Aston Villa host West Ham on Monday night under the lights at Villa Park. The Villans have had a tough start to the season with just 3 points coming from their opening 4 games. They’ll need to be on song to get a result ion this one as they face a West Ham side who have started the season in good fashion and they are also unbeaten away from home.
The Hammers have won their last 3 matches in all competitions and they have looked a lot more settled compared to this time last year when they where languishing near the foot of the table. They’ll be confident of picking up a good result here to continue their good start to the season.
Aston Villa will be without James Chester and Jonathon Kodjia whilst West Ham will be without Michael Antonio and Winston Reid.
Potential Aston Villa Starting XI: Heaton; Guilbert, Engels, Mings, Taylor; McGinn, Luiz, Grealish; Jota, Wesley, El Ghazi
Potential West Ham Starting XI: Fabianski; Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Masuaku; Yarmolenko, Noble, Rice, Lanzini, Anderson; Haller
Key Stats & Facts
- Aston villa have lost just once at Villa Park against West Ham since 2010.
- January 2016 is the last time any Villa side recovered a PL point after going behind.
- Aston Villa 13/8
- Draw 5/2
- West Ham 8/5
West Ham’s recent performances have led me to think that they are the team to be siding with in this one. The Hammers seem to have a much more settled squad compared to previous seasons and they have also added striker, Sebastien Haller, who seems to have taken well to Premier League football. The Frenchman has 3 goals in 3 PL appearances so far and he scored 2 goals in his first away game for the club. Haller is 13/8 (Betfair) to score at any time in the match and with the Haller likely guaranteed a start I think it’s a great angle into the match. Haller’s record in league matches for Frankfurt and West Ham stands at 18 goals in 32 appearances since the start of last season, this works out as a goal every 1.7 games. Haller is in great form and I really like his chances of scoring on Monday night.
Both of sides haven’t been the best at the back, and I think we could see goals in this game. Aston Villa have conceded 6 goals in 4 matches whilst West Ham have conceded 7 in 4 matches, largely thanks to their 5-0 defeat against Man City. More recently West Ham have failed to keep a clean sheet in the league conceding on their last 2 away trips. Aston Villa have only drawn a blank once in the PL and that came away to Crystal Palace where they had the ball in the back of the net, but it was ruled out somewhat controversially. Over 2.5 goals in this match is best priced 4/6 (William Hill) but that is a bit short for the average punter. I like the look of siding with the Hammers in this match and for West Ham to win and over 2.5 goals in the match you can get 13/5 (Betway).
