Arsenal will be hopeful of strengthening their bid for Champions League football next season when they visit Napoli for the second leg of their Europa League Quarter final.
The charge has been in full force of late. They were victorious over Watford on Monday to lift them back into fourth in the Premier League and a Champions League qualification spot, shortly after winning the first leg of this tie, 2-0.
Napoli also occupy a qualifying place for the champions league, in Serie A.
There’s seven points separating themselves and Inter in 3rd, meaning they were able to rest four key players for this match, while Arsenal rested six.
Lorenzo Insigne, Rui, Chiriches and Meret were all rested from the first leg, for that league game for Napoli while Arsenal chose to give Petr Cech, Sokratis, Maitland-Niles, Kolasnic, Ozil and Lacazette all a break from the starting line-up since the first leg.
Aaron Ramsey’s strike and a Kalidou Koulibaly own goal gave the Gunners the victory in the first leg.
Napoli: Rested players, Insigne, Rui, Chiriches and Meret are expected to start after being rested for the Serie A fixture at the weekend.
Amadou Diawara is the only player unavailable, due to injury
Arsenal: Cech, Sokratis, Maitland-Niles, Kolasinic, Ozil and Lacazette all expected to start after missing out on Monday.
Danny Welbeck, Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka are all injured.
Potential Napoli Starting XI: Meret, Hysaj, Maksimovic, Koulibaly, Rui, Callejon, Ruiz, Allan, Zielinski, Mertens, Insigne
Potential Arsenal Starting XI: Cech, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Maitland-Niles, Elneny, Ramsey, Kolasinac, Ozil, Lacazette, Aubameyang
Head To Head
- Arsenal won the first leg 2-0 to make it 2 wins out of four meetings with Napoli.
Key Stats & Facts
- Napoli have only been beaten at home twice since the turn of the year.
- Arsenal haven’t conceded in six games., and haven’t conceded two in a single match since 2nd Feb (3-0 v Man C).
- Napoli 13/8
- Draw 10/3
- Arsenal 4/1
Napoli’s home record coupled with Arsenal’s record away from home makes for worrying reading for Arsenal fans.
There’s no denying this Napoli side have goals in them and I think they will score given their strong home record but I still fancy Arsenal to qualify after being in such a strong position.
Arsenal can qualify even with a 1-0 defeat so should the game be heading into the final stages with just a narrow victory for either side, they’ll only be one side pushing for a goal.
