Inter’s summer business could not have gone much better and their side that starts this season is fancied by many as the one to rival Juventus for the title.
Luciano Spaletti has spent wisely this summer, bringing in players who all have plenty of experience in Serie A, such as the likes of Radja Nainggolan from Roma, Stefan De Vrij from Lazio, Kwadwo Asamoah from Juve and Keita Balde Diao who starred for Lazio in recent years. Matteo Politano was also signed from Sassuolo and looks set to make his debut against his old club and is another player who knows what it takes to succeed in Italy.
Having said that, Sassuolo have also made some strong signings this summer, in a bid to find a solution to their dismal attacking force of last season. They were the league’s lowest scorers with just 29 goals in 38 games but they will be hoping the likes of Kevin Prince Boateng, Khouma Babacar and Federico Di Francesco, whom have been bought in the summer, can help solve that issue.
Looking at the game itself, it is certainly a mis-match on paper in terms of quality of player on the pitch. Inter are fancied at 13/20 for the win which actually looks decent value considering their opponents, but it is the head-to-head that makes this game slightly more interesting. Sassoulo’s form in recent matches against Inter is brilliant, winning six of the last seven meetings, including wins in both games last season.
The home side in the double-chance market at 17/12 is probably a little small to take but I certainly don’t think this will be an easy game for Inter. The first game of the season with plenty of new players can sometimes be a bit tricky so you would think Inter might take a little while to get used to things, which might play into the home side’s favour. However, with the quality on show, you would still expect Inter to come out on top.
Inter’s most noticeable signing of the summer, Radja Nainggolan, will miss the first game of the season as he still suffers with an injury. Other new signings, Lautaro Martinez, Matteo Politano, Kwadwo Asamoah and Stefan De Vrij, all look set to be handed their debuts by Luciano Spaletti.
Sassuolo were one of the leagues busiest clubs, signing 13 new players and two of their most noticeable incomings, Kevin Prince Boateng and Federico Di Francesco, look set to start. Manuel Locatelli and Khouma Babacar could make their debuts off the bench.
Potential Sassoulo Starting XI: Consigli; Lirola, Ferrari, Lemos, Rogerio; Duncan, Magnanelli, Sensi; Berardi, Boateng, Di Francesco
Potential Inter Starting XI: Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, De Vrij, Miranda, Dalbert; Vecino, Brozovic; Politano, Martinez, Asamoah; Icardi

Inter have so much quality on the pitch it is hard to see Sassuolo taking any points from the game but I certainly think Inter will be made to work for it. The Neroverdi will be happy to sit tight and keep the game in-front of them for the majority of the game and look to their attack of Berardi, KPB and Di Francesco to cause problems on the counter. However, with the quality both on the pitch and on the bench, Inter should be able to pick up all three points.
