A first round clash between the current world champion Mark Williams and Neil Robertson brings two of the games giants together over 11 frames.
Mark Williams grabbed the snooker world’s attention last April winning his third world title fifteen years after his second to become the second oldest winner at forty-five behind his fellow countryman Ray Reardon. His naked press conference to win a bet followed making headlines for his tongue-in-cheek humour. He said he would enjoy his reign as world champion this time around and who can blame him. Despite all of his light hearted indiscretions he did manage to win this seasons second ranking event in China winning his last three matches from two down with three to play. Since though, his form has dipped a little understandably.
Neil Robertson has the look of a man on a mission this year already making 41 centuries and has opted to play the Championship League to get sharp for the rest of the season. He has admitted that in recent seasons he has lacked his old dedication but he looks ready to contend again for snookers major titles.
Head To Head
- Neil Robertson 14-5 Mark Williams
- Neil Robertson – 11/10 @ Ladbrokes
- Mark Williams – 13/15 @ Marathon Bet
Neil Robertson holds a significant head to head advantage and was the first winner at Alexandra Palace, whereas Mark Williams has no sort of record here despite his famous victory over Stephen Hendry at the Wembley Conference Centre back in 1998.
Neil Robertson will possess a level of match sharpness from playing in the Championship League that Mark Williams will not given he is still enjoying his reign as world champion to the max only last week cruising around the West Indies and I expect Robertson’s professionalism to secure a routine win at a surprising price.
Taking into account that the reigning world champion will not be as sharp as Neil Robertson we can have a small bet also on Neil Robertson to be winning after 4 frames.
The last bet I like is Neil Robertson to be the highest break scorer knowing that he has won this particular market 14-7 in their previous meetings.
I did consider Century Match Bet and alternate handicap also for Robertson and personally I have bought his match points on the spread.
