Following hot the heels of the UK Championship the Coral Scottish Open has been full of shocks and surprises but there is nothing new in the finalists with the cream eventually rising to the top.
Mark Allen snatched semi final victory from the jaws of defeat coming back from 4-0 and 55-0 down in frame 5 to win 6-5 against the relatively unknown 750/1 outsider Daniel Wells. Since winning the China Championship in emphatic style over a month ago Mark has been a model of consistency moving to the provisional world no1 with a semi final in the Champion of Champions followed by back to back finals this and last week in the UK Championship.
Shaun Murphy this season has been in woeful form losing eight first round matches in ranking events and prior to this week he was outside the top 64 on the provisional one year ranking. Considering his change in form this week I expect he will be feeling good after victory against an in form Judd Trump in last night's semi final and looking forward to playing his good friend Mark Allen in the final.
Head To Head
Shaun Murphy 12-6 Mark Allen
- Shaun Murphy – 11/10 Coral
- Mark Allen – 11/13 Marathon Bet
Our main bet will be the under 3.5 centuries with both players averaging one in every ten frames between them this week the line looks unreachable.
My overall feeling is that during Mark Allen's purple spell there have been times in the last ten days when he looked a little jaded which is testament to his class and determination that he keeps winning however, yesterday’s semi final comeback will have added to that fatigue. Shaun Murphy on the other hand will be coming into the final reasonably fresh so given his good form during the week in tandem with his excellent head to head we can expect the ‘Triple Crown Winner' to add another ranking title to his already impressive CV.
Should Shaun Murphy win we can expect it to be easy fashion and with a fast start that he invariably finds versus Mark Allen. 14 times they have played matches of 7 frames minimum in which the first 4 frame winner has been Shaun Murphy 6 times with 6 draws and only twice Mark Allen has lead at the first interval.
