Champions League Best Bets
The third qualifying round of the Champions League continues on Wednesday night and all 10 teams involved will be hopeful of getting of positive first leg result to give them the best chance at qualification. Tom Rodgers is on hand to find value from the five fixtures.
First up, Portuguese powerhouse Porto travel to Russia to take on Krasnodar in what should be a tight but entertaining affair. Krasnodar have never qualified for the Champions League so they will be looking at home advantage to get the across the line against a Porto side who are all too familiar with the Champions League having won the competition twice before and will be expecting to reach the groups at a minimum.
Porto have a wealth of talent in their ranks with the likes of Alex Telles, Yacine Brahimi, Tiquinho Soares and also Moussa Marega. Moussa Marega was Porto’s top scorer in the Champions League last term with six goals in nine games, you can back him to score anytime at 23/10 with Marathon Bet.
Next up, Basel host Austrian side LASK Linz hoping to qualify for the group stage after the disappointment of last season when they lost in the second qualifying round to PAOK and crashed out of the tournament. Whereas for Linz, they have only ever qualified for the Champions League back in 1965/66 where they were knocked out in the preliminary rounds by Gornik Zabrze, so they will travel to Switzerland looking for an away goal to take back to the Raiffeisen Arena to give themselves a chance of making the Playoffs.
Basel have scored in their last 19 games which is staggering, they certainly know where the net is but also have problems keeping the ball out the back of their own net. Lask Linz have scored in their last 14 matches but have conceded nine goals in their last eight matches. You can back Basel to win and over 2.5 goals in the game at 13/10 with Betfred.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel finished as Basel’s second top goal scorer last season with 17 goals in 42 games and also has 1 goal this term scoring in a crucial win over PSV in the previous round. If Basel are to progress against LASK Linz, van Wolfswinkel will be crucial if Basel are to grab a few goals at home to take away with them to Austria. You can back van Wolfswinkel to score anytime at 23/20 with Unibet.
