Tuesday night gives us the second-leg between Barcelona and Manchester United. Barcelona lead 1-0 on aggregate after a professional display in the first leg at Old Trafford.
United were largely expected to lose in the first leg but to have only conceded one still gives them a fighting chance of progressing to the semi-final stage. They’ll have to find a way past a Lionel Messi inspired Barcelona on Tuesday night and they are priced at 15/2 to win the game.
This should be a fascinating game to watch with Barcelona the hot favourites but they’ll need to be wary of a United side that have shown great character to get this far.
Barcelona rested plenty of players at the weekend and they’ll have a near fully fit squad to choose from for Tuesday’s game.
Manchester United will be without Luke Shaw who is suspended, but they are confident of having Matic, Sanchez and Herrera back in contention for a place in the squad.
Potential Barcelona Starting XI: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Busquets, Arthur, Rakitic; Messi, Suarez, Dembele
Potential Manchester United Starting XI: De Gea; Dalot, Smalling, Lindelof, Young; Matic, Pogba, Fred; Martial, Lukaku, Rashford
Head To Head
On home soil, Barcelona have kept three clean sheets from four games against United, and they will be keen to add one more to that tally on Tuesday.
Key Stats & Facts
- The La Liga giants have tasted defeat just once in 2019. They have also only lost once at the Camp Nou this season.
- Barcelona 2/5
- Draw 9/2
- Man Utd 8/1
If United win this match and go through to the Semi-Finals it would probably go down as one of their greatest victories. The task at hand is huge for the Red Devils and had this tie occurred earlier in Solskjaer’s reign I would have given them a greater chance of pulling this off. Recently United seem to have ran out of steam to perform in the way they did during those early games for Solskjaer and I wouldn’t be totally confident of them coming out on top against an in form and well rested Barcelona side.
Barcelona are heavy favourites for the tie at 2/5 and I do fully expect them to win the match but I think United do have the ability to cause problems. United are capable of scoring goals in any game and throughout the season we’ve seen that this Barcelona defence can concede plenty of goals. The visitors have to score and I think Solskjaer will set his team up on the counter attack and cause the home side problems with the pace that they have. Both teams to score and Barcelona to win is 7/4 (888Sport) this would have landed in 2 out of the last 4 home games for Barcelona and United have only failed to find the back of the net once in the last 20 away games in all competitions.
Another angle I like in this game is for Luis Suarez to score the first goal. Suarez is yet to score in the Champions League this year and he’ll be fired up for this game against United who he has a history with. Suarez is currently 15/4 (Winner Sports) to score first on Tuesday. The Uruguayan has 2 goals in his last 3 games and I think whilst most of the defence will be concentrating on Messi, Suarez will be able to grab the headlines with the first goal.
Wirral born sports fanatic who takes a keen interest in football, cricket, horse racing, NFL and Rugby Union. Over the years I have been put through the ringer on many occasions by Tranmere Rovers. Followed Tranmere for 15 years and never seen much success - that is until James Norwood's goal sent the Super White Army into dream land on 12/05/18. I've never seen a goal mean so much to so many people and so is without a doubt my best moment supporting Rovers.
