The National League takes centre stage on Sunday and it’s between two sides who’ve been in the football league in recent years. It looks like the bookies can’t separate these two in the betting markets and given the pairs indifferent form it’s no surprise.
Ex-Middlesborough and Bradford centre half Matthew Bates is now in charge of Pools but he lacks any kind of managerial experience. Having said that they sit in a respectable 9th position but they’re winless in 4.
The North-East club do have some threats with former Hendon striker Nico Muir who’s on 5 for the season and they’ve goals from midfield too, with the experienced duo of Nicky Featherstone and Liam Noble.
Visitors Barnet sit 3 places beneath their opposition in 12th place. The vastly experienced John Still is at the helm these days and he’s got a youthful squad over at the Hive.
One player that’s caught the eye this term in midfielder Wesley Fonguck who has garnered interest from football league clubs, it’s easy to see why. He’s notched 6 goals already this season from midfield which is highly impressive.
They also have a raft of strikers to choose from with Shaquille Coulthirst, Simone Akinola and recent signing Mo Bettamer. The latter scored for Braintree in his last game against Hartlepool.
Hartlepool don’t have any new injury concerns. However defenders Carl Magnay and Andrew Davies are suspended.
David Tutonda is the only new doubt for Barnet.
Potential Hartlepool Starting XI: Loach, Anderson, Kitching, Kioso, McLaughlin, Featherstone, Noble, Donaldson, Woods, Muir, Dinanga.
Potential Barnet Starting XI: Cousins, Alexander, Reynolds, Robson, Sweeney, Johnson, Adams, Fonguck, Taylor, Bettamer, Coulthirst.
Key Stats & Facts
- Barnet have not lost at Hartlepool since the year 2000.
- Hartlepool have drawn 7 of their 19 games so far this season, only Chesterfield have drawn more.
- Hartlepool – 8/5
- Draw – 12/5
- Barnet – 15/8
With little to choose between the sides and Hartlepool’s penchant for stalemates I’m happy to plump for the draw at 12/5. It feels like a game where both would probably take a point and it’s an appealing price being the biggest of the three in the 1X2 market.
I’m also willing to have a punt on the in form Wesley Fonguck To Score anytime at a bulbous 9/2. Given the fact he’s scored 6 already this term I think he should be nearer 3/1. He should get chances to drive into the box especially with Pools’ two main centre halves unavailable.
