Lyon shocked Manchester City when these two sides last met in September, winning 2-1 as Maxwell Cornet and Nabil Fekir silenced the Etihad with two first half goals.
Since that result, Pep Guardiola’s side have turned things round emphatically, winning three games back-to-back and putting themselves in a commanding position in Group F.
City are top with 9 points, three ahead of second-placed Lyon, who have yet to win in Europe since impressing so much in Manchester.
The French outfit have drawn their last three, including two score-draws against the German side Hoffenheim, despite being 2-0 up with a man advantage at one point in the home fixture.
Bruno Genesio’s team remain the only team to beat Man City this season and if they can repeat their heroics on Tuesday then they will book their place in the last 16, regardless of the result between Hoffenheim and Shakhtar.
The Citizens can win the group with a victory in France, which will only shorten their odds of winning the competition outright – with many bookmakers already having them down as favourites.
A draw will be enough for City to advance to the knockout stages.
Kevin De Bruyne, Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo all remained sidelined for the away side.
Bernardo Silva should recover from a knock in time and John Stones is expected to regain his starting place on Tuesday.
Nabil Fekir was taken off injured at half time in Friday’s 1-0 win over Saint Etienne, but has since declared himself fit to play.
Lyon potential Starting XI: Lopes, Denayer, Marcelo, Morel, Rafael, Ndombele, Aouar, Mendy, Fekir, Memphis, Dembele.
Man City potential Starting XI: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Delph, Fernandinho, D Silva, B Silva, Mahrez, Sane, Jesus.
Key Stats & Facts
- Lyon have hosted English opposition nine times previously in European competitions, winning two, drawing six and losing one.
- Manchester City have visited French clubs twice previously in UEFA competitions and have yet to win, losing one and drawing one.
- Both of City’s previous games in France contained over 3.5 goals.
- All eight matches so far in Group F have finished with three or more goals.
- Lyon have lost only one out of their last eight European outings.
Head To Head
- The sides have only met once, with Lyon winning 2-1 in September.
- Lyon 23/4
- Draw – 17/4
- Man City – 2/5
Hosts Lyon have showcased great attacking prowess so far in this competition and forward players Memphis, Dembele, Cornet and Fekir will be confident of causing problems on Tuesday night.
However, Lyon’s problems lie in defence, and they come up against a Man City side that are scoring goals for fun, having notched nine times in their last two Champions League games alone.
Because of this, Man City to win the game with both teams to score looks like good value, as does over 2.5 match goals, with all eight matches in Group F having finished with three or more so far.
