It’s an all Yorkshire affair to kick off Saturday’s action and it promises to be a very intriguing watch. It’s 5th vs 2nd and a win for the home side will see them leapfrog their counterparts from up the M1.
It’s two sides with distinctive styles of play. I’ve talked about Chris Wilder’s fluid 5-3-2 formation before, players are allowed to roam wherever they want because there is a collective know-how on when to fill in. Their wing backs stay wide and make the pitch as big as possible, meaning if opposition got touch tight it leaves gaps in the middle of the park for the likes of John Fleck and Mark Duffy to exploit.
Leeds have their own unique way of playing. The vastly experienced Marcelo Bielsa has his personal formation he’s implemented at Leeds. Central midfielder Kalvin Phillips often drops in as a third centre half and is charged with kick-starting attacks. Phillips actually filled in as a traditional centre half against Reading last week due to injuries; he performed admirably alongside Liam Cooper.
Both sides are deservedly up there too, the pair rank as comfortable top 6 material over all the key data metrics. It should be an entertaining game and an interesting tactical battle that plays out.
George Baldock is back for the hosts, Chris Wilder has no new injury worries.
Pontus Jansson will face a late fitness test to see if he will return to the set-up for Leeds. Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi, Izzy Brown and Patrick Bamford all remain on the treatment table.
Potential Sheffield United Starting XI: Henderson, Stevens, O’Connell, Basham, Egan, Baldock, Fleck, Norwood, Duffy, McGoldrick, Sharp.
Potential Leeds Starting XI: Peacock-Farrell, Dallas, Cooper, Phillips, Douglas, Forshaw, Klich, Baker, Hernandez, Saiz, Roofe.
Key Stats & Facts
- Sheffield United have lost only once to Leeds in their last 11 fixtures against them.
- Leeds have failed to win at Bramall Lane since 1992.
- Sheffield United are unbeaten in their last 9 home games.
- Sheffield United – 11/8
- Draw – 5/2
- Leeds – 11/5
Sheffield United seem to have the Indian sign over Leeds, they rarely lose to the Whites. I want to get the draw on side as well though and I’ve found an angle which makes plenty of appeal. We can combine Sheffield United ‘double chance’ with over 1.5 goals and get a 4/5 shot using Bet365 BetBuilder feature. Goals have been a feature in both sides games this season so I’d expect a few here.
Sticking with the BetBuilder theme we can back BTTS, both sides over 3 corners, both sides over 1 card at 7/1. It’s a bet I like to play when I expect an entertaining game, given it’s a Yorkshire derby we could be in for a few cards. Sheffield United rack up plenty of corners and Leeds are naturally an attacking side too and should get a few here.
