Torino are on a four match unbeaten run in Serie A and host Fiorentina on Saturday as both teams push for a European spot come the end of the season.
Toro currently sit tenth in the standings and have had a great month in Serie A. They have won two of their last four games after starting the season rather poorly and they are poised to compete for a Europa League spot. Last weekend, they threw away a 2-0 lead in Bologna as they were pegged back to draw 2-2. Walter Mazzarri will be encouraging his team to show the goalscoring ability they have so frequently found so far this month, with seven goals coming from their last five games. Impressively, they have shown that they are able to find the net through other sources than Andrea Belotti; the star striker has only scored once in that period.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina started the season strongly but have dropped off as of late. Last weekend they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cagliari after losing 2-0 to Lazio – two very disappointing results for Stefano Pioli’s men.
They are in need for a win this week otherwise they risk being leapfrogged by their opponents; Fiorentina must put in a solid performance to keep up the pressure on their fellow Europa League qualification contenders.
Torino will be without Lyanco and Cristian Ansaldi for the match while La Viola will be missing Christian Norgaard.
Potential Torino Starting XI: Sirigu, Nkoulou, Moretti, De Silvestri, Baselli, Meite, Berenguer, Falque, Soriano, Belotti
Potential Fiorentina Starting XI: Lafont, Milenkovic, Pezzella, Hugo, Biraghi, Benassi, Veretout, Gerson, Chiesa, Simeone, Pjaca
Key Stats & Facts
- Torino have only won two of their last nine games in Turin against Fiorentina.
- Fiorentina have just one away point so far this season.
- Andrea Belotti has netted four times in six games against Fiorentina.
- Torino – 17/11
- Draw – 40/17
- Fiorentina – 21/10
This has the potential to be a very interesting matchup with two very talented teams. Fiorentina have scored 15 times already this season and come up against a shaky-at-times Torino defence, so Mazzarri’s men will have their work cut out for them coming up against Giovanni Simeone and Federico Chiesa.
I predict that both teams will find the net in a high-scoring affair and that Andrea Belotti will find the net, keeping up his solid form against Fiorentina.
