Tottenham Hotspur meet West Ham in the fourth round of the League Cup, the same stage the former bowed out in both their previous two seasons.
This league cup fixture is Spurs’ third in a week, managing fixtures in both the Premier League and Champions League competitions alongside. Their most recent fixture, a 1-0 defeat against current premier league champions Manchester City, followed by a 2-2 draw against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League which all but ended Tottenham’s hopes of qualifying out of the group stages.
The fixture before that, a 1-0 victory against West Ham, should already have provided fans of these two sides a pre-warning that something wasn’t quite right. While not only does the previous record between these two sides prove it hasn’t always been as straight forward for Spurs against the Hammers, it also suggests for a high-scoring game.
Just last season Tottenham were knocked out at this stage of the same competition, losing 3-2 to the same opponent, West Ham.
In fact, that score has recorded in 3 of the last six meetings between these two sides with only two clean-sheets during that period.
West Ham conceded late against Leicester to only manage a point in their most recent fixture in a run of mixed results. A 1-0 loss to Brighton, coupled with the defeat to Spurs, was proceeded by a 3-1 victory over Manchester United.
West Ham: Mark Noble begins a three match ban in this fixture.
The Hammers should be without injured trio Marko Arnautovic, Pedro Obiang and Lucas Perez.
Tottenham: This is their third game in a week, their second in three days, suggesting changes will be made to the starting lineup.
Potential West Ham Starting XI: Fabianski, Zabaleta, Balbuena, Diop, Masuaku, Rice, Antonio, Anderson, Snodgrass, Diangana, Hernandez
Potential Tottenham Starting XI: Gazzaniga, Walker-Peters, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Aurier, Dier, Winks, Lamela, Alli, Lucas, Llorente

Goals have been a guarantee in a huge majority of fixtures between these two sides. Two contrasting styles is probably the most likely reason why both teams to score has so commonly won in this fixture, also. I’m backing goals from either side in a high scoring encounter.
This game appears very open, supported with fair odds whichever way you choose. Personally, I believe Tottenham have got bigger priorities, hence why they have failed to progress further than this round in their last two attempts, while West Ham have made the fifth round on both occasions. I’m going home win.
